March Madness Sneak Peak

Happy Family Day to all my fellow Ontarians (and to all of you from Alberta too!).  We spent a lovely weekend at our family cottage enjoying the cold by snowshoeing and tobogganing down the hill to the beach!  It was great!!!  When we weren't outside we were warm and cozy in beside the wood stove playing games, working on a great puzzle and eating yummy food!  So nice!!!!  I LOVE this mid-February holiday.  It's still pretty new but it's not hard to take : )

So, I didn't do any stamping this weekend but I do have a card that I made a couple of weeks ago for my March Madness Make and Take on March 5th.  I had a lot of fun with my Big Shot on this one!

Spring colours for March Madness

See what I mean?!  I just couldn't stop on this one.  One of my favourite things on this card is the little crepe paper flower.

I ran the crepe paper (see it in Stampin' Up's Spring Catalogue) through the Big Shot on the Floral Fusion Sizzlits die.  I then, very gently, sponged the individual flowers with Raspberry Ripple ink....the more you sponge on the colour the darker the flower.  Finally I pinned them all together with a little brad.

Happy Anniversary

Tonight I've got a card that I made for my parents' anniversary a couple of weeks ago.  The "bones" of this card actually had been sitting on my desk for a couple of months because I just couldn't get it to work in a way that I way happy with.  But, after a number of weeks away on vacation I was able to put this card together rather quickly.  Take a look...

This is a CASE from something I saw on Pinterest....although I can't remember the exact source at the moment.  My original idea (sometime in May or June) was to showcase Stampin' Up's 2012-2013 In Colours.  I took strips of each In Colour and adhere them to the Whisper White matte and then ran the whole thing through my Big Shot using the Flower Garden Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

What brought the card together for me though was the addition of the little flowers that I made using my brand new "Floral Fusion" Sizzlits die.  I really like how they can be layered to create a small focal point.  I finished the flowers off with some Pearl Basic Jewels.

I really liked how it turned out....and it's another project off my desk : )

All A-Twitter

There is a baby shower for my cousin's new daughter today.  She is very special to me because she was born 2 days after my daughter but quite prematurely.  She is doing very well now and we praise God for her life.

I wanted to do something special for her so I put together another owl, this time using Stampin' Up's Twitterpated fabric.  It is such pretty fabric and I knew as soon as I saw it that I wanted it!  I was pregnant at the time and hoping to have a girl so I could use.  So....my daughter and my cousin's daughter will have matching owls.

So cute!  Stampin' Up's products are so versatile that I even used the Big Shot and a punch to create the eyes.  I ran the white felt through the Big Shot using the Circles #2 die.  To create the pupils I punched out felt using the 1/2" circle punch.....although I don't think you can punch fabric out using these punches the felt was soft enough that it worked.

Just Believe

I love the stamp set "Just Believe" but I've always wondered what to do with the stamp in it that says "Some things have to be believed to be seen".   Well this week I found a use for it.  My aunt, for the past number of years, has had severe back pain to such an extent that she's had surgery to try to correct the problem.  Even with that she was still having a lot of problems sitting, standing or walking and the pain was still very severe.  This week, thanks to her belief and faith in Jesus Christ and lots of prayer, she was miraculously healed!!!!!   She, obviously, is thrilled and we are rejoicing with her.  So when I sat down to create a card to send to her this saying leapt out at me.

Some things have to be believed!!!

Isn't it pretty?!  I used 3 of the new In-Colours from Stampin' Up!; Gumball Green, Primrose Petals and Raspberry Ripple.  I love how they work together.

For the interior I selectively coloured (with my brand new Stampin' Write In-Colour markers) both the flowers and the sentiment.  The sentiment comes from a retired Christmas set called "Star Studded Season" and I thought was perfect for this occasion.

So Sweet for Monkey Challenge 95

I was asked to be a guest designer for this week's A la Card Monkey Challenge #95....so sweet!  And that was this week's theme.  With Valentine's Day this week the challenge is to create a "sweet" Valentine card.  Although I've been consuming candy at an alarming rate in the past week I don't own any candy stamps so I went with a "sweet" image and used my "Gnome Sweet Gnome" set.  Take a look:

 I had seen some fellow demonstrators use these stamps in a similar way on the Stampin' Up demonstrator forum.  I thought it was really cute and replicated it for this card.  I stamped the gnomes first with Basic Black ink and then used my Blender Pens to "watercolour"  the images.   I had fun using my Hearts Framelits to create the hearts and then used my Blushing Bride Smooch Spritz to sparkle up the little heart.  And, while you can't see it here, the bottom strip of Twitterpated DSP has been embossing using the Adorning Accents Textured Embossing Folder (hearts).

"Quilted" Birthday

A dear friend of mine is celebrating her birthday tomorrow and I want to share the card I made for her.  I wanted to try something for her that I've been meaning to do for a while....."quilting".  Here is the result.

I took little squares of Everyday Enchantment and adhered them to a scrap of paper before running it through the Big Shot using my Top Note Bigz die.  I then gave it some texture by running the quilted piece through the Big Shot using the Square Lattice Textured Embossing folder.  It's hard to see the texture on here but I really liked the result.

A Fresh Start

I love using new products!  I'm especially excited about all the new things that the 2012 Occasions Mini has to offer.  When I got the catalogue in December I couldn't put it down and every page held something else to love!  So now that Christmas cards are finally over I've delved into the new stuff to create a card for my cousin's baby shower on Friday evening (so E.M. if you're reading....stop now until after Friday night!).   My cousin and I are due ONE DAY apart in March....what are the chances?!!   I'm so excited for her, as this will be her first baby. 

I based her card on this week's A la Card Monkey's sketch...."A Fresh Start"....so fitting for this time of year and also for the card I needed : )  Thanks again ladies for the inspiration!

I wish I could say that I just "whipped" this card out, but in reality it went through a number of incarnations.  One of the choices I had to make was what colour to make the hand prints.  Neither of us know the gender of our baby so I decided to one of each colour.....as I finished I realised it could double as a wedding card : )  

So many fun new products....Twitterpated DSP, Blushing Bride Smooch Spritz, Blushing Bride Pleated Satin Ribbon, Hearts FRAMELITS  (I LOVE these!!!!!), new embossing folders.....so great!

The other stamp I've been wanting to use is "All Packed for Baby".   I selectively coloured just the onesie from it for this card....but stayed tuned for more using the whole stamp.

Hobby Horse Thanks....

....for the Monkey Challenge 85.  I have to admit, I really, really like A la Card Monkey's weekly challenges.  I find the sketches so inspiring and even if I don't get my card posted in time each week I usually complete the sketch.  This week is no different, and look, I'm even posting on a Wednesday!  I must be doing something right this week to be early : )

This week's sketch was for a "Thank You" card and I took that as my inspiration to do a long overdue thank you to a family friend.  Here's the sketch:

Hobby Horse Thank You

About a month ago, a close family friend made up a bunch of sock hobby horses (like a sock monkey but a horse instead) for her granddaughter's 3rd birthday party and made an extra for my son.  I've been meaning to send her a thank you card and I finally got some inspiration this week with this sketch.


I really needed a break from Christmas cards and colours so I chose to use the "Just Add Cake" DSP colour scheme for this one.  I also decided to go with lots of texture for the backgrounds and had lots of fun with my Big Shot and new scallop circle punch.  Here is a close-up of the hobby horse

 To make him (or her) you need the Stocking Builder Punch and then just turn the stocking part upside down.  I used lots of toe bits from the punch to make the ears and mane.  The only stamp I used is the "thank you" sentiment from "Family Phrases" which, sadly, is now retired.

Soft Suede Christmas

It's snowing (finally)!!!!  We've had so much rain the past few days and it's finally decided to snow!  YAY!!!!!  Can't wait to go and out and play in it tomorrow morning with my son : )

I stayed inside this evening, however, and created a card for a couple of challenges:  Stamping 411's SSC 232 and the Paper Players Challenge 75.  I really liked the sketch on Stamping 411 and the idea of using non-traditional holiday colours for it.

Soft Suede holiday card

 The non-traditional holiday colour scheme I chose is Soft Suede, Early Espresso and Very Vanilla.  The only stamp set I used on the front was for the sentiment.  It is from Teeny Tiny Wishes.  This is a really simple card to make actually.  The Very Vanilla card stock is embossed using the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder and then sponged with Soft Suede ink.  I used the Modern Label and Decorative Label punches for the sentiment and then embellished with basic pearls and Early Espresso quilted ribbon.

 For the interior of the card I used one of the stamps from the Circle Circus sets and again lightly sponged the edges with Soft Suede ink.  Super simple but elegant nonetheless.

Bright Hopes Sparkle

Firstly, I must acknowledge my friend, Leena, over at A la Cards for her inspiration of this card.  She did 2 beautiful examples using these same colours, techniques and stamps that I completely copied for this card.  Please go and check out her blog if you haven't already, she does fabulous work!  Thanks Leena for the inspiration!!!! 

I was looking through a Bay (Hudson's Bay Company) flyer the other day and saw a layout of a house all done up in whites, light blues and light turquoise for Christmas and I thought...."I really would love to do a card using those colours"....and then I read Leena's blog that evening and it all clicked : )

So here is my version of this "Bright Hopes" card:

Bright Hopes Sparkle and Rock and Roll

 Isn't this a great colour combination?!  Pool Party and Island Indigo are quickly becoming a couple of my "go to" colours.  I love them together.  With Whisper White it creates such a nice, clean look.   To get the double colour on the "Bright Hopes" wreath I used the "rock and roll" technique.  First, ink your stamp with Pool Party (or another light) ink.  Second, "roll" the edges in the Island Indigo (or darker) ink.  Super easy and really pretty!

Dazzling Diamonds everywhere!

 I used Dazzling Diamonds (careful, they get EVERYWHERE) as part of some double embossing on the strip of Island Indigo.  I first ran it through the Big Shot in the Snow Burst embossing folder, then applied Versa Mark ink and Heat and Stick powder.  Finally, a touch of Dazzling Diamonds finished it off.  I'm going to try this again but on a piece of Whisper White....looking at it now I don't think there is enough contrast between the "Bright Hopes" wreath and the Island Indigo strip.  Stay tuned for more variations on this theme.

Serene Snowflakes for Monkey Challenge 80

Well with Halloween behind us, now I'm in full-on Christmas mode.  I know I complained about Christmas marketing starting too early in an earlier post, but it seems that this year all I can think about is Christmas cards.  Maybe that's because my calendar has quickly filled up with Christmas workshops!

So, with weeks of wanting to do the A la Card Monkey challenge but just never getting around to it in time....here's another entry.  I actually made this card a few days ago, but this is the first time I've had the energy and time to sit down and do a blog post.  It's been hectic around here lately as I am getting a "new" home for my stamping corner in what was the spare bedroom....lots of moving around going on in my house to make room for our new arrival in March : )

Serene Snowflakes with a Snow Burst backing

 I knew immediately when I saw this week's sketch that I wanted to do something with the "Serene Snowflakes" set and creating a  "broken" image.  Thanks to Leena over at A la Cards for the colour inspiration (I've been using it a lot lately) of Rich Razzleberry, Lucky Limeade and Marina Mist.  It is a really simple concept but takes some concentration to pull off.  I began with a 3 3/4" square of Whisper White card stock which I stamped randomly using the "Serene Snowflakes" and chosen colours.  Then I cut that square into 9 smaller 1 1/4" squares....and here's the tricky part....keeping them in order and adhering them onto a Lucky Limeade matte.  I had a lady on Tuesday evening mix up her pieces (she had stamped on both sides to boot).  It was like putting a puzzle back together with no guide : )

The Marina Mist matte was run through the Big Shot using the Snow Burst embossing folder.  I think it would look just as nice unembossed though. 

Merry Christmas sparkle

I used Lucky Limeade 3/8" ruffled ribbon taped behind this time rather than tying a knot.  The sentiment comes from "Teeny Tiny Wishes".  I have been coveting this set for a couple of years now and finally got it.  It's great because this card can be made into a birthday card or thank you (Happy Mother's day...) whatever you want : )  I finished the sentiment and snowflakes with Dazzling Details....I really can't resist this stuff, it's fantastic (and cheap)!!!!

Super Cute....

My neighbour is due with her second child this week so we got together on Friday to put together a baby announcement card.  What we came up with is SUPER CUTE and I think I may just have to use the same design in March when my second arrives : )

Isn't it so sweet!  Her colour combination is Chocolate Chip, Lucky Limeade, Island Indigo and Pool Party.  We used some stamps from the "Nursery Necessitities" set (which is now retired).  The empty green space will eventually be filled with a picture of the baby.


Could be a card on it's own

  I thought the sailboat would fit perfectly with the "Under the Sea" theme of the nursery and the sails allowed us to incorporate all the colours to tie the whole card together.

We were guessing a little bit here on a name and date, which are yet to be determined...but I would bet money that the 18th will in fact be the day : )  While not pictured here, the interior of the card will contain all the "nitty gritty" details.

Monkey Fun and an Amazing Deal

And now onto this week's A la Card Monkey Challenge!  Terry and Shirley were kind enough to allow me to be a guest designer in this week's challenge and I had a lot of fun creating a sparkly (and jingly) Christmas card.

I LOVED this sketch and quickly decided that "Dasher" and sparkles had to be a part of the card.  Here is my take on the sketch:

So my colour combination is Wild Wasabi, Real Red, Very Vanilla and Chocolate Chip.  It's taken a while to grow on me but I'm started to love the "Holly Berry Bouquet" Speciality DSP in the Holiday Mini.  The best part is that it has Sparkle Paper in it : )  I used some for the bottom of the "Top Note" background.  I also used Real Red sparkle paper for the "rosette" behind Dasher and some more Dazzling Details sparkle on Dasher himself.  I also HAD to use the new miniature Jingle Bells on this one.  Here's a close up:

They actually jingle!  It's great!  A very simple way to add something special to your holiday cards this year.  I'm really looking forward to using them in upcoming workshops.

SSC 221

Thanks to a rainy day and a son who decided to have a 2 hour nap I was able to put something together for this week's Saturday Sketch Challenge over at Stamping 411 .

Day of Gratitude Embossing for SSC 221



 As you can see, I took a little creative license with the layout of the sketch but I think it adheres to the overall idea.  I have mentioned previously that I am really enjoying working with the colour scheme from the Spice Cake suite from the Holiday Mini.  This card is no exception; Pear Pizazz, Soft Suede, More Mustard, Pool Party and Very Vanilla.

This card is a case from a card I did with my upline about a year ago before I became I demonstrator.  It uses a really neat embossing technique that involves "inking" the stamp on the VersaMark and then inking it with Classic Ink before stamping the image on the page.  After the image is stamped then it is heat embossed using clear embossing powder.  This allows for a shiny embossed image but with your desired colour (since I learned this technique a year ago Stampin' Up has started producing coloured embossing powder but this technique allows you to use any colour).  Here is a close-up of the medallion:

I inked the medallion from the "Day of Gratitude" set with VersaMark and the More Mustard classic ink.  Then I sponged Pear Pizazz and Pool Party around the medallion and added a little brad to the centre.

To finish the card off I use Pool Party ruffled ribbon and embellished with a couple of acorns and a leaf.  First I threaded the images onto Linen Thread using a sewing needle and then tied them around the ribbon.

Fun with Monkey Challenge 73

Well, Shirley and Terry promised this week's challenge would be a fun one and it didn't disappoint.  I had a lot of fun creating this card for Monkey Challenge 73 over at A la Card Monkey.  So, without any further ado, here is the sketch for the week:

Monkey Fun with Circle Circus

I've been wanting to use the Circle Circus stamp set for a while.  I realize that it is an older set but it's new to me and that's always fun!  I headed to my trusty catalogue to find some colour inspiration and found it in the DSP collection (I love that SU! tells us what colours are used with each set of DSP!).  Berry Blossom DSP was my colour inspiration for the day...Lucky Limeade, Calypso Coral, Wisteria Wonder, Early Espresso and Whisper White.  Mmmm, makes me think of a morning on a beach in some tropical....but I digress.

Really the rest is pretty self-explanatory.   Randomly stamp circles in different colours on the background white.  I maybe would fill in the negative space a little more next time.  Run the Calypso Coral strip through the Big Shot in the Lattice Die.  Pretty standard....until I decided to use my new bottle of Dazzling Details (see new Holiday Mini for details).  Oh my, what fun!  Glitter without the mess....perfect!  I started with just a few dabs here and then I just couldn't stop ; )   Too bad it's so hard to see in the photo...so here's a close-up of the sentiment.

I have to tell you, as soon as I saw this stamp set I knew I would have to get it because "Happy Day to You" is what my 2 year old son says to people on their birthdays.  It's so cute!  I think the sparkle will help make the recipients "happy day" even brighter : )

Monkey Challenge 72

It's been quite a while since I've entered a Monkey Challenge over at A la Card Monkey and have decided to get back in the game tonight.  This week's challenge was a Christmas card challenge.  I have always resented the fact that Christmas is so commercial and we can barely get through Halloween or Remembrance Day before we get pounded with Christmas propaganda...but here I am, entering a Christmas challenge and encouraging my customers to book their Christmas workshops early....sigh.  Oh well, I do LOVE Christmas and the holiday season so here I go, getting into the festive spirit in September ; )

Merry Christmas Pennant

 I'm not sure if I like it, to be honest : )  I took some liberties with the sketch, due in large part to the fact that I do not have any up-to-date Designer Series Christmas Paper or any up-to-date Christmas stamp sets.  Hmm, guess I'd better get on that.

I did turn to the Holiday Mini for some colour inspiration and decided to go with Cherry Cobbler, Garden Green, Marina Mist, Early Espresso and Whisper White, a combination in this year's "Frostwood Lodge" suite. For the Christmas tree I used a pennant from the Pennant Parade stamp set along with the tree stand and star....you will need a Stamp-a-ma-jig to do this.  The sentiment comes from "Four the Holidays" (the only Christmas stamp set I have that carried over!).  I finished it off with the Early Espresso baker's twine.

I'm looking forward to creating more Christmas cards with more bling and "excitement" than this one, but what can I say....it is only September ; )

I can do this....

My apologies to those who follow this blog regularly for neglecting it over the past couple of months.  This summer was crazy and, as usual, packed with activities and trips.  While my husband was out of the country for 2 weeks at the beginning of August, my son and I were pampered and well-fed at my parents' cottage.  I have to admit, coming home and having to take care of things myself has taken some will-power : )  I have not felt like doing any stamping at all since then and, save preparing for a workshop at TheMuseum, haven't really.

With the start of a new school year, which has always been the start of my year (forget January 1), I have resolved to get my act in gear.  With my husband back to work I'm fending for myself during the day...without the help of swimming lessons, fitness class or Bible study yet.  Yesterday was a good day, today, not so much....my son, the budding artist that he is, decided to take his work off paper and onto the walls....lovely.  I love 2 year olds....really I do : )

Alright, so here's a card I came up with a couple of days ago.  I'm considering using it for next week's Make and Take.  I had fun with my new "Simply Scored" (love it!!) and some great new DSP (Spice Cake).

Gratitude card using the new "Simply Scored" tool

One of the blogging colour challenges last week (or the week before) was to use Soft Suede, Pool Party and More Mustard.  I love this colour combination.  So I decided to try....too late to enter it into the challenge of course : ).  I like the result.  I used the "Day of Gratitude" stamp set for this one.  I love the medallion.  I started by stamping the medallion onto the Pool Party cardstock (with Pool Party ink) and then used the Simply Scored tool to create a 1/2 inch grid...it's hard to see here, but it is a really cool effect.  I LOVE the Simply Scored tool, no more swapping scoring blades out on my paper cutter!  And it's so smooth. 

I used the new Spice Cake DSP from the Holiday Mini for the vertical feature with a strip of More Mustard punched using the Scallop Edge punch.  I took a couple of scraps of Pool Party and ran them through the Big Shot in the lattice embossing folder.  To create the hearts, punch out 6 and then fold 3 of them in half.  I used a glue stick to adhere them to the "flat" hearts and then onto the card.
