Fall Birthday for PP171

While preparing for a workshop I am running tomorrow I wandered over to The Paper Player's weekly card challenge.  This week's challenge is a colour theme using Crushed Curry, Chocolate Chip and Tangerine Tango.  LOVE it!!!

These colours fit perfectly with Stampin' Up's "Sweater Weather" DSP, which, if you've been following me this fall, you know that I LOVE!!!!  It just makes me want to curl up with my comfy sweater and a cup of hot apple cider...yum!

My hostess specifically asked for me to prepare a birthday card for her guests to make.  Here's the card I came up with using those colours.

I used a technique that I call "thumping" to create the look on the stamp from the "Chalk Talk" stamp set and then had fun with the "Chalk Talk" framelits.  I trimmed the edges of the burlap ribbon to "distress" a little and then used the scraps to add embellishment near the sentiment.

Gorgeous Grunge Birthday

I had a great time last night running a workshop for my former upline.  She has a great group of friends who love to craft together.  Because she is no longer running her own Make and Takes they hadn't been together in a while.  We had a blast reconnecting and stamping!  I shared the first project, the Starburst masking technique, in my previous post (click here to see it).  This is the second card that we did at last night's workshop:

Have I mentioned that I love Stampin' Up's "Gorgeous Grunge" stamp set?  Well I do!  I find it so versatile.  Stay tuned in the coming days for how to use it for Christmas Cards!

While I made this card using the Crushed Curry, Tangerine Tango and Chocolate Chip side of the "Sweater Weather" DSP,  I used the other side of the DSP last night and used a Soft Sky background.  It looks great either way!

The sentiment comes from the "Express Yourself" hostess set.  I really like the font of this set and it has many different sentiments which makes it a great set to have on hand.  Contact me to learn how you can earn this set.

Sweater Weather for PP 165

Today was one of those days that, for me, brings back so many fond memories of autumns past.  The sun was shining, it was about 25C, there was a light breeze and the leaves are beginning to turn.  Gorgeous!  I love this time of year!

Stampin' Up's new DSP, "Sweater Weather", captures the colours and "feel" of the season as much as paper can : )  I know I've said it before, but just looking at the paper makes me think of cozy sweaters with big buttons, making soup, going for walks and kicking the fallen leaves and really just enjoying everything that autumn offers.

I just had to share this paper with my monthly Make and Take friends so I created a card using The Paper Players Challenge 165 "Tic Tac Toe" board.    I chose the left, vertical line: "Ribbon, Patterned Paper, Birthday".  Check it out:

I'm so happy with the result here.  The colours on the tree remind of the ash trees on my street which are bright yellow right now.  I also like it because I think that this card could be given to a man or woman....sweet!

Here are all the details:

Stamp Sets:  Serene Silhouettes, Banner Greetings (Hostess set)

Ink and Card Stock:  Crushed Curry, Tangerine Tango, Chocolate Chip

Other:  Sweater Weather DSP, Burlap Ribbon, Labels Collection Framelits

Sweater Weather

It certainly was sweater weather in my corner of the world this morning.  When we left for school it was about 3 C  and I had to dig out the mitts!  Stampin' Up! nailed the sweater "feeling" with their new DSP "Sweater Weather"!  It started working on this card last night and, honestly, just looking at the paper makes me feel warm and cozy.  Really!  I know that sounds weird but it does!

My friend, Leena, has got a fantastic blog and "Monthly Sketch Inspiration".  She does a great job of creating sketches that lend themselves to so many variations!  I used this month's sketch inspiration for this card.

I just HAD to put buttons on this card.  I keep thinking of a big, warm sweater with great buttons on it when I look at this Designer Series Paper.  The problem is, I didn't have any real buttons that looked quite right.  I opened my little stash of Simply Pressed Clay buttons up and chose two that I then coloured with my Chocolate Chip and Soft Sky Stampin' Write Markers.  Perfect!  That's the great thing about Simply Pressed Clay....you make your buttons or flowers ANY colour you want.

I used a sentiment from the "Six-Sided Sampler" stamp set again and used a little piece of Natural Trim ribbon to finish it off.

I'm pretty happy with the result.  Simple and gender neutral!

Simple Rainbow Cards #2

As I was cleaning up my stamping desk and moving things around some left over DSP scraps caught my eye.  I love the combination of the colo...
